The initial building of the current residence was built in the first half
of the XVIth century. The different additions made over the years and organised
around the original structure in a subtle blend of styles, punctuate with
elegance the architecture as a whole. Chateau of Valençay Louis of Estampes,
governor of Blois, and Marie Hurault, daughter of the Lord of Cheverny first
began the building around 1520. |

Their son, Jacques of Estampes of Valençay,
married the daughter of a rich financier in 1540 and continued the
construction. It is moreover under the sign of finance that the career
of Valençay was to continue, since it would belong successively to
several ministers of finance including John Law, creator and famous
speculator who "invented" the first "paper money" in France during
the regency of the Duke of Orléans.
